Ferret pet care: Part II

Allow it to have fun: Like cats, ferrets enjoy siestas and sleeping from 15 to 20 hours a day. But, once they wake up, ferrets like being active, thus the more you amuse them the happier and less mischievous they will be. Ferret pets enjoy getting inside within anything, including PVC tubes, cardboard boxes, paper bags, fabrics and even jeans. Hang up of the cage any pet toy and the ferret will enjoy it for sure.

Set up the table: Ferrets are not the fanciest animals when eating, but if you put a big clay plate on the cage and tied up a water bottle on the outer part of the cage you will avoid spills. Due to their high metabolism, ferrets digest their meals in 3 to 4 hours approximately, means they need to have among 7 to 10 meals a day.

Ferrets are carnivorous and their good health depends on a diet that contains at least 32% of proteins and 18% of fats, thus ferret dried food or cat foods are appropriate. As “candy” you can give it slices or melon or low sugar cereals (as Cheerios), chopped broccoli, green pepper or cooked eggs. Avoid sweet or salad foods and dog food, which does not have the necessary nutrients for a ferret.
