Toucan feeding and special care

One of the particular features of this bird it its very small stomach, making its digestion through absorption in juts half an hour.

The dimension of its stomach makes it take foods rich in water or soluble substances. Therefore, the foods we give our toucan must be diluted in water to facilitate its digestive process.

The basic diet of this animal is comprised of fruits and vegetables, but is can include, according to our possibilities, larvae, chicken or reptiles. The latter, that a toucan can get easily in its habitat, are more complicated to get in a domestic environment.

We have to plan our toucan’s diet without overlooking some fruits as apple, melon, pear, mango, cherries, peaches, bananas, kiwis, etc.; or vegetables like cucumbers or carrots. We may also include some bread, but it has to be whole meal.
